0#1Mahari Mengistu2010-03-07 17:05Most of these discussions on black identity seem REALLY silly. How can there be an identity crisis if you know who black people are in the FIRST place. Perhaps, that is the question at hand: Are black people really familiar and knowledgeable about their history? I think the answer is "no". And, of course, if you are unfamiliar with your history how can you know where you fit? How can you identify yourself? You can't know where or what to identify with. Whether you call yourself Afrikan-American or black hardly matters because you know your history and therefore know the challenges and what links us together. I think in a practical sense "black" is the best term since, in fact, a white born in Afrika could technically call him or herself Afrikan-American.
