About Asar

Asar Imhotep is an independent historian, poet, producer and researcher focusing on African cultures, languages, philosophy and spiritual symbolism. His focus as of late has been a comparative study of ancient Nile Valley civilizations and their cultural connections to the Bantu of central and east Africa. This study has helped him to develop a comparative methodology he calls philosophical cognancy (the comparison of signs, symbols and ritual practices across African nations in a similar fashion to comparing cognates in linguistics). Asar is the founder of the MOCHA-Versity Institute of Philosophy and Research which is a virtual network of scholars who uses the pedagogical framework entitled “Putting on your thinking CAAPTM” (Creative Application of African Philosophy) to develop fresh and creative solutions to problems facing the African-American community.

Asar Imhotep is the author of the books Esodus: Internal Reflections and Conversations with the Sun (2008), and The Bakala of North America – The Living Suns of Vitality: In Search of a Meaningful Name for African-Americans (2009). He is soon to release his 3rd book From Africa to Ithaca: The Intellectual Traditions of Alpha Phi Alpha (scheduled for fall 2010). He has also contributed two articles for The Encyclopedia of African Religions edited by Dr. Molefi Kete Asante and Dr. Ama Mazama.

His passion for cultural anthropology, philosophy, spirituality, film, music, history, technology and science brings a unique perspective & flare to the realm of spoken word and African historiography. He is also a proud father of sun Elijah and an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - Eta Mu Chapter the University of Houston.
